the story of belum
I founded BELUM in 2026, meaning ''Not yet'' in bahasa Indonesia. My mom is from Indonesia so it has always been a part of my roots. Growing up, I sometimes struggled with that connection. I didn’t always know where I belonged or how to connect the different parts of my identity. For a long time, I felt like I was still searching for that part of myself.
As I got older, I started looking more into my identity and where I came from. The more I learned and the more time I spent in Indonesia, the more I started to understand what that connection meant to me. What once felt difficult to understand became something I wanted to embrace with pride and so BELUM grew from that feeling.
It is inspired by Indonesia, by Bali, by the nature, the ocean, the people, the handmade craftsmanship and the slower way of living. I wanted to create something that could carry a little bit of that feeling with it. I love pieces that don’t feel too perfect, where you can see the hand behind them, where the material has its own character and where no two pieces are exactly the same.
I work with very small quantities and use leftover fabrics and leather whenever possible, giving existing materials a new life. Many pieces are made only once, making them feel even more personal.
BELUM is a reminder to trust your own timing. You don't have to have it all figured out yet. Some things take time. Some things are simply not yet.
